1998 - Round 11 - Broncos 40 defeated Bulldogs 12 at ANZ Stadium

Both teams have be in the groove of winning matches in the last few weeks without surroundings the world on fire. Brisbane lead the premiership by purely doing enough to win while the Bulldogs have won three close encounter to get their season back on track.

The Bulldogs will be buoyed and thriving with the news that star halfback Brent Sherwin has re-signed for another five years and the intellect of relief ought to flow through to the rest of the players. Brisbane however is the most professional team in the game and lift for the big match occasion. Wayne Bennett will no doubt have his troops prepared for a tough encounter.

My heart would really love to say a Bulldogs victory but Brisbane is simply too influential in the forward, have too much firepower off the bench and of course the Darren Lockyer factor. The Bulldogs will start the match well but offer no resistance off the bench and Lockyer must come into his own during the subsequent half.

Predictions:
Matthew O'Neill: Broncos by 14
Steven Birchall: Bulldogs by 2
Bevan Robinson: Bulldogs by 8
Michael Garbutt: Broncos by 6
Matthew Flanagan: Bulldogs by 6
Average: Broncos by 1

Melbourne Storm vs Warriors Preview:

Melbourne players haven't done a lot of talking about making AAMI Park their "fortress" and they haven't talked up their 10-game winning streak at the ground as much as might be expected.

Their football has done all their talking for them and there is no clearer sign of their intent and focus than their position at the top of the competition ladder after six rounds.

It is six weeks into the year that follows the most tumultuous season in the club's history, when they were forced to shed high-calibre players such as Greg Inglis, Ryan Hoffman, Brett White and Brett Finch to become salary cap compliant. They could have been excused for struggling in the early rounds of the new season while a host of lesser-credentialled recruits were initiated into the Melbourne operation.

But with the support of his three biggest stars Cooper Cronk, Billy Slater and Cameron Smith, coach Craig Bellamy had other ideas and with his renowned single-mindedness, Bellamy has rebuilt the club into a premiership force in next to no time.

The Warriors have tasted some success in Melbourne over the years but this will be their first visit to AAMI Park and in their current form will be at long odds to come away with a first-up victory.

Take a Melbourne try as First Scoring Play and a Storm victory by 13+ points.

For First Tryscorer consider Billy Slater, Matt Duffie or Dane Nielsen for the Storm or Bill Tupou or Krisnan Inu for the Warriors.

Week 7 - NRL Telstra Premiership 2011

Played 26; Melbourne 13, Warriors 11, drawn 2. The Storm have won five of the past eight games between the sides, although the Warriors won the last encounter 13-6 at Mt Smart Stadium last year. They are yet to play at AAMI Park.

Conclusion: The Warriors can take some confidence into this match regarding their record over the Storm. They shared the points with Melbourne last season (even though Melbourne had little to play for in their return bout in Auckland). In 2009, they lost a match, but also drew a result. And in 2008 they won two out of three matches against the side that went on to make the grand final.

That record is better than most clubs can attest to against a superstar team that was proven to have bent the rules. The Warriors aren’t without hope, but the momentum is all in Melbourne’s favour and they’ll need something special to stop the purple rush on Anzac Day.
